It’s
looking like a funny old season. Teams are losing left, right and centre.
That said, it
still looks as though LCS will again be crowned champions, judging by these
opening stages of the season. Masheshena are
top of the Vodacom Premier League with 13 points after six games. Rivals LDF
are second with 11 points.

Inconsistency
is the Achilles Heel of the district teams Lioli, Bantu, Linare and Matlama.
The same can be said of Likhopo who were thought to be a title contender this
season. It seems these sides simply can’t maintain a steady run of form.
Inconsistency
is their only consistency.
This past
weekend this was proved by Bantu, beating Lioli 2-1 at the Lioli Stadium. It
was A Matšo Matebele’s first win in the
league since the opening weekend of the season while Lioli had designs on
extending a lead atop the table.
The Lesotho
After six
games only Lioli LCS, Linare and Joy – surprisingly – have managed to win
back-to-back games.
It is this
kind of form that it is difficult to look past perennial contenders LCS and
LDF.
However, LDF
haven’t won the league since 2004. Although Sohle-Sohle
haven’t finished outside of the top three since 2004, they have always fallen just
short of the main prize. Their new policy of only recruiting from within the
army (introduced three years ago) means LDF don’t quite have the quality players
they used to when they head-hunted the country’s best talent.
This is what
LCS have continued to do. Their team is full of Lesotho

are Joy who have made their customary fast start to the season, ensuring that
by the time squeaky-bum-time arrives in the second round the Sebothoane side
are in the clear.

other end of the table, after their second loss in a row, Lesotho

funny old season.
