Bokamoso South and Lichocha lock horns in rematch

Bokamoso South (in red) have been on fire...
Bokamoso South and Lichocha Shooting Rifles meet in a potentially explosive top of the standings National Basketball League (NBL) clash on Friday evening at Lehakoe Recreational Centre.

The game is an early test of both sides’ credentials and a rematch of last year’s NBL semi-finals in which Bokamoso South shocked Lichocha to advance to the finals.

Underdogs Bokamoso eventually lost 3-0 to KTA All Stars in those NBL finals but seem to have grown from the experience. The youthful club is top of the NBL A-Division standings after winning their opening four matches and their victories have come in impressive fashion. Bokamoso’s plus-125 point differential is the best in the league.

Lichocha, who topped last season’s regular season standings before their shock playoff loss to Bokamoso, have also impressed.

Last Wednesday, Lichocha outlasted reigning champions KTA All Stars 76-74 in a high-profile win and they have already registered 250 points in their three games this season.

Lichocha will again be favourites against Bokamoso who moved to the top of the standings with a 83-37 demolition of Lesotho College of Education (LCE) in Teyateyaneng on Sunday. However, Bokamoso’s confidence is high as they seek to establish themselves as new force in Lesotho basketball.

To football and the premier league and 2016 Independence Cup sponsors Standard Bank Lesotho and Metropolitan Lesotho will embark on their CSI project to give back to the communities of the four teams participating in this year’s Independence Cup, Lioli, Matlama, LCS and Sundawana.

The initiative is a new addition to the Independence Cup festivities.

The project will start on Friday with Butha-Buthe based Sundawana.

Sundawana have chosen to give back to St Paul primary school in Butha-Buthe and will hand over school apparel to pupils. The project will then move to Teyateyaneng and Lioli next Wednesday before finishing in Maseru next Friday with visits to Matlama and LCS.

The 2016 Independence Cup will be played on October 22 and 23.
