Weekend Vodacom Premier League games rescheduled

Bantu fans will have to wait a week before they can
celebrate again...
All Vodacom Premier League games scheduled for this weekend have been postponed, the premier league has announced. This coming Saturday and Sunday was due to see the second round of matches of the 2016/17 league season which started this past weekend.

However, all games have been postponed because the national side Likuena will be playing against Algeria in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Algiers on Saturday.

The league will resume its next weekend with its September 10 and 11 fixtures. This weekend’s postponed games will be rescheduled for a later date. Bantu are the early leaders of the Vodacom Premier League after a 3-1 win over Rovers on Sunday. A Matšo Matebele are followed by Kick4Life who beat Likhopo 2-0 in their season opener.

The national side Likuena left the country today for their tie against Algeria which is a dead rubber. Algeria has already qualified for next year’s finals in Gabon while Lesotho is bottom of Group J. Likuena coach Moses Maliehe has kept faith with the same squad that reached the quarterfinals of the COSAFA Castle Cup in June. Lesotho will once again be captained by defender Basia Makepe.

Elsewhere, the Minster of Gender, Youth, Sport and Recreation, Mathibeli Mokhothu, has rewarded the team that represented Lesotho at the 2016 Rio Olympics with M120 000.

Team Lesotho arrived back in the country last Tuesday.

The money will be shared by the eight athletes that went to Rio and each will receive M15 000. Team Lesotho comprised of track athletes Mosito Lehata, Nomakoe Nkhasi and Tšepang Sello, marathon runners Tšepo Mathibelle and Lebenya Nkoka, boxers Inkululeko Suntele and Moroke Mokhotho, and cyclist Phetetso Monese.

Although none of the athletes won a medal, minister Mokhothu said qualifying for a major sporting event such as the Olympics was significant in its own right and deserved recognition.
