Vodacom Premier League weekend disrupted

It was a much disrupted weekend in the Vodacom Premier League which ultimately saw only three matches completed.

For the second weekend in a row there was violence at grounds which caused the abandonment of a league game.

Last weekend it was at Setsoto Stadium in the tie between Lioli and Matlama, this week it was at Ratjomose where the clash between LDF and Bantu was not finished because of fighting between players.

Bantu were leading 2-0 when the match was stopped.

Two games had already been postponed heading into the weekend with Matlama versus Sundawana and Likhopo against Sky Battalion rescheduled because of the teams having players in the national Under-20 side which was in action on Saturday.

In addition, a fourth fixture ended up not being played as Saturday’s match between Liphakoe and LMPS in Quthing was washed off because of heavy rain.

In the end, it meant only three Vodacom Premiership games were played this weekend.

The pick of the ties was the clash between Vodacom Premier League leaders Kick4Life and champions Lioli on Saturday. It was an entertaining affair in which Lioli came away with a statement 4-1 win.

Tse Nala were at their imperious best at the LCS Stadium and their goals came courtesy of a Tšepo Seturumane brace and a strike each from Tšepo Lekhooana and Tumelo Khutlang. Former Lioli striker Nkoto Masoabi scored the consolation for Kick4Life. Kick4Life remain top of the Vodacom Premier League with 22 points. However, Lioli have closed the gap. The champions are up to second place, five points behind Kick4Life and with a game less in the played column.

In Saturday’s second game at the LCS Stadium, LCS notched their first victory since September with a 2-1 win over Rovers. The win moved Masheshena up one place to eighth with 13 points.

On Sunday, only one match was played as Linare ran out comfortable 6-1 winners over struggling Butha-Buthe Warriors at the Maputsoe DiFA Stadium. The win, which was Linare’s first in five matches, eased Tse Tala’s relegation worries, at least for a week. Linare, who are in 11th place, are five points clear of second bottom Likhopo and four ahead of 12th placed Rovers.

Butha-Buthe Warriors, on the other hand, remain rooted to the bottom of the Vodacom Premier League. The newly-promoted Warriors are still without a win in 10 games and appear destined for a quick return to the A-Division.

Staying with football and Lesotho’s Under-20 side got their 2016 COSAFA Under-20 Championships preparations off to a good start with a 3-1 win over Swaziland on Saturday.

The Makoanyane XI been pitted in Group A against South Africa, Botswana and Swaziland in the 14-team championships which will run from December 7 to 16.

The tournament will be staged in Moruleng in South Africa’s North West Province.
