Lesotho’s Napo Matsoso has begun training with his new club in America, the New England Revolution.

The 22 year-old was selected by the Revolution at the Major League Soccer SuperDraft three weeks ago after starring for four years at Kentucky University.

The MLS season starts on March 3 and Matsoso is set to become the only Lesotho footballer plying their trade in a top-flight professional league abroad.

Should Matsoso impress he could make his Likuena debut when the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers begin in June. Lesotho has been drawn in Group L against Uganda, Tanzania and Cape Verde in the race to Cameroon 2019.

Likuena coach Moses Maliehe said he had been following Matsoso even in his college football days.

“I have been following (Matsoso) and his progress and I have talked to his parents as well,” Maliehe said.

“He is well aware of our intentions as we are always in contact and talking. Of course, if things go well for him, we will consider him (for Likuena).

The New England Revolution are one of the ten charter clubs of MLS having competed in the league since its inaugural season in 1996. The Revolution won their first major trophy with the 2007 US Open Cup. The following year they won the 2008 North American SuperLiga.
