Swallows looking to take step towards Econet Premier League

The A-Division is reaching its final stages...

Swallows will be looking to take one step closer to the Econet Premier League when they host second-placed Manonyane in Mazenod on Sunday.

Maswai-swai are top of the first division’s South Stream with 29 points from 12 games. They are nine points clear of second-placed Manonyane in the race for the stream’s lone promotion spot to the Econet Premier League.

It means a win on Sunday could all but secure Swallows’ return to the top-flight for the first time since 2011.

The Mazenod outfit would be 12 points clear of Manonyane – who have looked the team most likely to spoil Swallows’ party – with just five matches to play.

At the other end of the South Stream, Rovers will be desperately looking for three points when they host Machokha at the Machabeng Stadium in Roma on Saturday. Rovers are rooted to the bottom of the table with just one point from 12 matches.

However, even with their horrendous record, there is still hope of avoiding relegation for Rovers because Qoaling Highlanders, in the safety of ninth place, are only four points ahead of the Roma side.

In the North Stream, the promotion race is a tight three-way battle with Galaxy, Litšilo and Ketane separated by just a point at the top.

Galaxy lead the way with 24 points from 12 games, but they are only ahead of Litšilo on goal difference with Ketane in third with 23 points.

This weekend all three have winnable home ties on paper.

On Saturday, Galaxy host CCX at the Maputsoe DiFA Stadium while Litšilo welcome Butha-Buthe Warriors to Pitseng. On Sunday, Ketane face Mphatlalatsane in Maputsoe.

With the margin for error so small in the race for the North Stream’s sole promotion ticket, none of the top three can afford a slip-up this weekend.
