Matlama will get the chance to continue
their role as spoilers when they host Vodacom Premier League leaders Bantu this
weekend. Matlama caused an upset last Saturday when they beat rivals Lioli 1-0
in Teyateyaneng putting another dent in the champions’ title defence.
Will Matlama be celebrating again this weekend? |
That defeat left Lioli ten points behind
Bantu though Tse Nala do have two games in hand due to their Champions league
commitments last month.
This weekend Tse Putsoa get a crack at Bantu at Setsoto Stadium. Matlama, in
fifth place with 29 points, will be looking to further boost their top four
chances and can leapfrog LDF into fourth with a win.
It will be a difficult task, however. A Matšo Matebele are the only remaining undefeated
side and look on course for a first championship in club history.
Reigning champions Lioli will be hoping
Matlama can end Bantu’s run. Tse Nala
have a chance to get back on track when they travel to relegation-bound Melele.
Melele have the league’s worst away record having picked up just three points
from their seven games in Qacha’s Nek and lie bottom of the table with just
seven points.
Rematch - Matlama v Bantu |
After a stop-start month, Lioli
desperately need all three points to maintain realistic hopes of defending
their crown.
In Saturday’s other game LCS, champions
in 2011 and 2012, will look to claim a rare home win in what has been a disappointing
season when they host Nyenye Rovers. Despite traditionally being strong at
home, Masheshena have only picked up
one win in six home games this season, scoring just once.
On Sunday, renaissance boys Linare host
Qoaling Highlanders knowing a win coupled with slips from the top two could
lift them right into the title picture. Tse
Tala are third with 33 points, two behind Lioli and 12 behind Bantu who
have played two games more.
Sunday’s other games see second bottom
Joy host Likhopo, a Leribe derby between Mphatlalatsane and Mpharane Celtic and
LMPS versus LDF.
