Kick4Life retain top spot but Lioli finding form

Tšoanelo Koetle (left) was in supreme form for Lioli once again
Surprise packages Kick4Life remain top of the Vodacom Premier League for another week thanks to a 1-0 win over LDF on Saturday.

Kick4Life’s hero this week was Morapeli Lesoetsa who struck a 20th minute winner against LDF. The Old Europa outfit did waste several chances to make the afternoon more comfortable but they managed to hold on for an important win. The victory means Kick4Life have now been top of the league for six weeks in a row. Leslie Notši’s side have collected 25 points from their 11 games this season.

Champions Lioli remain close-by in second place after they beat Likhopo 4-1 in swagger filled display at the Setsoto Stadium on Sunday. Tse Nala’s goals came courtesy of a Tšoanelo Koetle brace, Bushy Moletsane and Tumelo Khutlang.

Lioli, who are looking to make it three title wins in a row, are two points behind leaders Kick4Life and appear to be hitting top form. The champions have scored eight goals in their past two games after thrashing Kick4Life 4-1 last week.

In third place is Bantu on 21 points. However, A Matšo Matebele will be frustrated after dropping more points in a 0-0 draw with Sundawana on Sunday. Bantu were also held to a goalless draw by Sky Battalion on Thursday and they endured another frustrating afternoon yesterday in Mafeteng. James Madidilane’s charges, however, do have a game in hand on Kick4Life and Lioli.

After Bantu there is a two-point gap to third place which is occupied by LCS who beat Butha-Buthe Warriors 1-0 on Sunday at the LCS Stadium. The win was Masheshena’s third in succession and it was sealed by a goal from Makara Ntaitsane. New boys Butha-Buthe Warriors, on the other hand, remain rooted to the bottom of the table without a win in their 11 games this season. Warriors only have two points to their name and have conceded a whopping 28 goals.

The other newly-promoted team Sky Battalion is doing much better, though.

Sky Battalion, with 17 points, are in fifth place after collecting another impressive point, this time in a goalless draw with LMPS at the PTC Ground on Sunday. Sky Battalion have been a tough nut to crack in their debut premiership campaign and have only lost once since September.

There were also wins this weekend for Matlama who bounced back from a difficult week to beat 3-0 Rovers on Sunday and Linare who claimed a valuable 2-1 win over Liphakoe in Quthing on Saturday. Matlama are in sixth place with 16 points and they will feel better after a week that saw them lose points in the boardroom and on the field in a draw with Sundawana on Thursday.

Linare are also smiling.

Tse Tala made it back-to-back wins with their success over Liphakoe and they now have some breathing space to the teams below them.

Those teams are 12th placed Rovers, 13th placed Likhopo and bottom side Butha-Buthe Warriors. The trio appears destined for this season’s relegation battle.
