Matlama’s frustrating week continues with Sundawana draw

Motebang Sera's strike wasn't enough to give Matlama the win against Sundawana
Matlama’s frustrating week went from bad to worse on Thursday as Tse Putsoa were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw by Sundawana at the Bambatha Tšita Sports Arena.

It has been a devastating couple of days for Matlama.  On Wednesday they were slapped with a 3-0 loss to Lioli by the Premier League and docked three points and three goals as punishment for their fans causing the abandonment of a game between the two sides two weeks ago.

The decision not only saw Tse Putsoa fined M10 000 but it sent their title challenge into disarray as they dropped from fifth to eighth place in the Vodacom Premier League.

Things didn’t get any better on Thursday afternoon as Matlama dropped two more points against tenth-placed Sundawana. The match was played without any fans as part of Matlama’s punishment but things had started off well for Tse Putsoa when Motebang Sera gave them the lead within five minutes. However, Sundawana replied swiftly and held on for a point that continues their encouraging turnaround.

After starting the season with three points from their opening six games, Sundawana have collected eight points from their last four outings and are unbeaten since a 2-0 loss to Lioli on October 9.

For Matlama, however, November has been a month of woe. Between unfinished and postponed games, Tse Putsoa have not tasted victory since beating LCS 4-0 on October 30.

Speaking of LCS, Masheshena claimed a valuable 2-0 win over Likhopo at the LCS Stadium in another of Thursday’s catch-up games. The win is LCS’s second in a row after they had gone two months without a league win. Masheshena are up to fifth place, six points adrift of leaders Kick4Life. Likhopo, on the other hand, remain in the relegation zone as their woes continue.

In Thursday’s third and final game, there was disappointment for Bantu as they were held to a goalless draw by a plucky Sky Battalion side at the Mohale’s Hoek DiFA Ground. The result meant Bantu missed out on the chance to join Kick4Life at the top of the league. As it is, A Matšo Matebele are second, two points behind Kick4Life but with a game in hand.

Sky Battalion, for their part, will be delighted with their hard-earned point which continues their excellent start to the season. The newly-promoted outfit are in fourth place and have only lost once since September.

Thursday’s Vodacom Premier League Results
Matlama 1-1 Sundawana
Likhopo 0-2 LCS
Sky Battalion 0-0 Bantu
