New additions to the Vodacom Premier League family... Sky Battalion |
Sky Battalion have been promoted to the
Vodacom Premier League after a win over Majantja coupled with a loss by their
nearest challengers Van Rooyen United meant they have an unassailable lead at
the top of the A-Division southern stream.
Sky Battalion beat Majantja 1-0 in
Mohale’s Hoek on Saturday while Van Rooyen lost 1-0 to Mangau on Sunday.
The results mean Sky Battalion have 37
points from 16 games while Van Rooyen have 31 from 17.
As a result, Van Rooyen can no longer overtake
Sky Battalion in the race to reach the premiership.
There are 10 teams in each of the
A-Division’s two streams – north and south. In each stream the teams,
therefore, play a total of 18 league games in the season.
Sky Battalion, coached Mothobi
Molebatsi, will face Manonyane and Melele in their final two games.
The club is owned by Chinese national,
Hua Gao. The construction businessman nicknamed Messi has bankrolled the club’s
rapid rise. In the 2012/13 season Sky Battalion were competing in the
C-division, Lesotho’s fourth tier league.
Four years later they will be competing
in the top-flight where glamour of facing the likes of Lioli, Bantu and Matlama
await.
