Lesotho will play its first official game
of 2017 on June 13. The match will be Likuena’s first qualifier for the 2019
Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and it will be away against Tanzania.
Lesotho was drawn in Group L for 2019
AFCON qualifiers in January alongside Uganda, Cape Verde and Tanzania. After June’s
first round of qualifiers there will be a long break until March 2018 for the
next batch of group games.
Lesotho’s next competitive fixture of
2017, therefore, will come in July in the form of a two-legged tie against
Comoros in the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers. Comoros will host the first leg on July 4
before the return leg in Maseru on July 21.
Should Likuena manage to progress past
Comoros they would face either Namibia or Zimbabwe in the final qualifying
round in August.
The winner of that tie will qualify for the
CHAN finals which will be held in Kenya in January 2018. Moses Maliehe’s side
has already started preparations for the games. The Lesotho Football
Association (LeFA) had hoped to secure a friendly for Likuena during FIFA’s
official dates from March 20 to 28 but nothing has been confirmed as yet. The national side is yet to play game since the permanent appointment of Maliehe as coach in December.
Likuena will play a practice game
against Vodacom Premier League side Sundawana in Maputsoe on Wednesday.
