Reaching for the top... Lichocha Shooting Rifles |
It was a hectic weekend of action in the
National Basketball League which ended with Lichocha Shooting Rifles closing
the gap on A-Division leaders Bokamoso South to just two points.
Lichocha again rode their prolific
scoring offence to make it an enjoyable weekend for their fans.
Lichocha are the league’s highest
scoring team and they demonstrated their firepower once again by thumping
Leseli Tigers 71-38 and Bokamoso North 57-19 in Saturday's action in Roma.
It means Lichocha have scored an
incredible 706 points in their eight games this season, an average of 88.25
points per game. The next best average is 64 points per game by leaders
Bokamoso South.
Lichocha’s duet of wins brought them to
within two points of the top after log leaders Bokamoso South suffered their
first loss of the season with a shock 54-50 defeat to Leseli Tigers on Sunday
at LCE.
The weekend's results have caused a
log-jam at the top of the A-Division table. Only four points separate the top
six teams. In fact, even the bottom team Limkokwing University still has a
realistic hope of finishing amongst the top four playoff teams at the end of
the season despite being 11th.
The parity in the league is shown by the
fact defending champions KTA All-Stars are currently in seventh place. KTA have
been Lesotho's dominant club and have won two of the last three NBL titles.
However, they have already lost three times in seven games this season.
Just like in the A-Division, the ladies
league is also led by a Bokamoso team, this time it is Bokamoso North who
solidified top spot with two crucial wins on Sunday.
Bokamoso beat Bashana Baheso 36-17 and
then overcame NUL Rovers 29-22 in a top of the table battle. Rovers are second,
one point behind Bokamoso. KTA All-Stars are third and reigning champions
Lichocha Shooting Rifles are fourth.
To football and Vodacom Premier League
giants Matlama say they will help the family of deceased club supporter Molise
Tsatsi.
Tsatsi was shot last week Sunday during
an altercation between Matlama and Lioli fans after the teams' abandoned league
match at Setsoto Stadium.
Tsatsi later lost his life at Queen ‘Mamohato
Memorial Hospital last Monday. Matlama have said they will help with arrangements
for Tsatsi's funeral.
