Saturday Wrap-Up: Big wins for Bantu and Matlama

Joy for Matlama
Bantu and Matlama were the biggest winners from today’s Vodacom Premier League action as both claimed wins to help their respective causes.

At the LCS Stadium, Bantu put in their most impressive performance of the year so far as they overcame LCS 2-0 thanks to goals from Litšepe Marabe and Lazola Jokojokwana.

The win moves A Matšo Matebele to within two points of Sandawana in the race for fourth place. Bafokeng Mohapi’s charges were the better side against LCS and duly took the lead in the 56th minute through Marabe before Jokojokwana sealed the win in the 68th minute.

For LCS the loss all but rules them out of the title race. A run of seven wins in a row had brought Masheshena a real shout of winning the league. However, back-to-back defeats to Lioli and Bantu virtually rule LCS out of contention.

In St Monica’s, Matlama claimed a vital three points with a hard-fought win over Mphatlalatsane.

With the win, Tse Putsoa have leapfrogged Lioli into top spot, at least for 24 hours. Lioli play Likhopo tomorrow. But, until then Matlama are leaders of the Vodacom Premier League. Furthermore, today’s over Linaleli, their fourth on the bounce, shows Tse Putsoa are serious challengers to Lioli’s crown.

While there was jubilation for Matlama, another defeat for Mphatlalatsane puts them deeper in trouble. They are six points adrift of safety with five games to go.

In Quthing, Liphakoe and Linare played to a 2-2 draw that saw all the goals come in the first half while in today’s other match, Sandawana and LMPS drew 1-1 in Butha-Buthe.

Today’s Results:
Bantu 2-0 LCS
Mphatlalatsane 0-1 Matlama
Sandawana 1-1 LMPS
Liphakoe 2-2 Linare
