Hosts Zimbabwe will play Tanzania in the semi-finals of the 2011 Cosafa Women’s Championships later today.
The Mighty Warriors beat Mozambique 3-0 at the Gwanzura Stadium on Tuesday to top Group A with three emphatic wins from their matches. Tanzania on the other hand finished second in Group B after losing their final match 1-0 to South Africa’s Banyana Banyana.
Banyana Banyana, defending champions, face Malawi who beat Lesotho 5-2 on Tuesday.
Lesotho’s national women’s team Mehalalitoe had given themselves a chance to progress to the semi-finals for the first time with a 3-2 win over Mozambique on Sunday.
South Africa are the firm favourites to win the tournament however they are likely to face stiff competition from hosts Zimbabwe. Both sides are heavily favoured to reach Saturday’s final and free scoring striker Rufaro Machingura said the Mighty Warriors are not afraid of Banyana Banyana.

Machingura is the top scorer in the Cosafa Women’s Championships and helped Zimbabwe record an impressive tally of 15 goals in three group games.
“We have prepared so much for this tournament to face any team. South Africa is a strong side and we have lost to them before. But we took lessons from those games and I believe we are prepared for another run against them,” Machingura said.
“I’m not afraid of them. Every game is different and if we play well we will win. All we need to do is apply what we have learnt,” she added.
The final will be played on Saturday at the Rufaro Stadium in Harare with the third-place play-off played earlier the same day.
