Champions LDF Ladies edge title rivals Kick4Life

It was an action packed day of Women's Super League football at Makoanyane Barracks...

Kholu Lebakeng was the hero as champions LDF Ladies beat Women’s Super League title rivals Kick4Life 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.

The early championship six-pointer was played at Makoanyane Barracks with both title favourites buoyed by season opening wins last weekend and, as expected, it was a close, hard-fought encounter with neither side willing to give an inch.

In the tense start to the game it was LDF, however, who looked slightly more purposeful.

Lehloenya Nkhasi’s side, of course, went into the game looking for revenge after losing 1-0 to Kick4Life in the final of the season curtain-raising Women’s Super League Tournament in July.

LDF started stronger and dominated much of the first half although it was Kick4Life who came closest to finding the opener when Senate Moima hit the crossbar shortly before halftime.

A similar pattern of play continued in the second half with LDF on top and Kick4Life threatening on the counter.

LDF finally found the breakthrough in the 83rd minute when an error by Kick4Life keeper Boelo Lephane allowed Lesotho international Kholu to find a crucial winner. The defeat is an early blow for Kick4Life who have been runners up in each of the league’s three seasons so far.

LDF, on the other hand, stay on course to become the first side to win back-to-back Women’s Super League titles.

Earlier in the first match of the double header at Makoanyane, 2016 champions Stoko made it two wins from two games with a comfortable 2-0 win over Berea to stay top of the league.

The day’s other double header was held in Mafeteng and Basetsana showed they will be a force to be reckoned with this season as they beat Rovers 2-1 in the first game. Last weekend Basetsana were unlucky to lose 3-2 to Kick4Life and they again put in an impressive display against Rovers.

In the day’s final fixture, Mafeteng Sisters and Sky Battalion played to a goalless to claim their first points of the season after opening weekend defeats.

Saturday’s results:
At Makoanyane:
FC Stoko 2-0 Berea
LDF 1-0 Kick4Life

In Mafeteng:
Basetsana 2-1 Rovers
Mafeteng Sisters 0-0 Sky Battalion
