LDF Ladies open three-point lead, Kick4Life edge Stoko to keep title hopes alive

Kick4Life kept their title hopes alive with a 2-1 win over Stoko...
LDF Ladies have opened a three-point gap at the top of the Women’s Super League after another winning weekend for the defending champions.

LDF beat Basetsana 4-0 on Saturday at Setsoto Stadium to claim their fourth successive win of the 2018/19 season with the in-form duo of Kholu Lebakeng and Phuzile Molefe again on the scoresheet.

Nkhasi Lehloenya’s team are still to concede a goal this term and have scored an eye-watering 21 goals in four games.

With 12 points, LDF are now three points clear at the top after second-placed Stoko suffered their first defeat of the season in a 2-1 reverse to Kick4Life at Setsoto on Sunday.

As expected, Stoko versus Kick4Life was an evenly contested tie between two title contenders and sides went into the break tied after a tight first half.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 64th minute by Kick4Life’s Relebohile Akhente only for Stoko to strike back a minute later.

However, it was last season’s runners up Kick4Life who had the last laugh when Akhente struck the winner against her former team in the 84th minute. It was a crucial goal as the win keeps Kick4Life’s title hopes alive after a defeat to rivals LDF earlier in the month.

Stoko (second) and Kick4Life (third) both have nine points from four games with 2016 champions Stoko ahead on goal difference.

The other two games at the weekend were played on Saturday at Assumption High School in Teyateyaneng and both ended in draws.

In the day’s first match, Rovers and Mafeteng Sistas played to a 1-1, a result which kept the sides fifth and sixth in the league respectively.

The league’s bottom two sides, Berea Ladies and Sky Battalion, also couldn’t be separated as their clash ended goalless in the day’s second game.
